How do you get your food ready for New Year’s Eve party feast? Great question!
Preparing food for a New Year’s Eve party can be a a lot of fun or it can be very stressful. It can even be a combination for the two. The experienced party-throwers may be able to plan a menu for their party and bring it off with ease. All while still enjoying their guests. But for those of us who do not have a lot of experience hosting parties, it may seem daunting and stressful. Either way, it is important to begin planning the dishes early for your party.
Tips for preparing food for a New Year’s Eve party
Whether you are an accomplished chef or a novice cook, preparing food for a New Years Eve party can be quite a challenge. One of the first decisions you will have to make is what kind of food you will like to prepare for your guests. You may opt for offering a sit down dinner early in the evening and light snacks and desserts afterwards. Or you might decide to offer a dinner buffet early in the evening, serving snacks and desserts throughout the remainder of the evening. Another thought is to skip dinner because the party will likely start late in the evening and simply offer appetizers all night long. Once you’ve decided the when, you can figure out what types of foods to serve and how much food to make.
Get it catered
The simplest, but probably the most expensive, option is to have the party catered. You pay a caterer to prepare and deliver all of the food. They will also likely provide the methods for keeping the foods hot or cold as needed. This is the least stressful method! Perfect for those who do not want to spend a lot of time preparing and serving food for the party.
Prepare all of the food ahead of time (my favorite option!)
With a little research you can find a large number of recipes for dishes that can be prepared ahead of time. These recipes can include foods that are served chilled, room temperature or hot. For hot dishes, you only have to worry about reheating the food before the party. Preparing the majority of the food ahead of time is a great idea! It is less stressful and gives you time to enjoy the festivities.
Prepare all of the food during the party
This helps to ensure the food is all fresh and is served at the appropriate temperature. But it is also a great deal of work for the host. You will not likely have a lot of time to socialize with your guests because you’ll be busy in the kitchen.
Hosting a potluck event
This really simplifies the food preparation. If a potluck is they way to go, it’s important to decide who will bring what to the party. This is important because you do not want everyone to bring a dessert. We all love desserts, but too much is too much 🙂
Ideally a couple of people will prepare entrees and the rest of the guests will bring side dishes, salads and desserts to the party.
No matter how you decide to host a New Year’s Eve party, make sure you take time to enjoy your guests and ring in the new year 🙂 It is the perfect time to reflect on the last 12 months, give thanks friends and make plans for the future.
