YAY!!! I am celebrating a Mary’s Local Market Anniversary! June marks the anniversary of when I launched my website – when I started blogging about living a healthy lifestyle and sharing my recipes.
I am so happy to be building a community- growing and learning – with you 🙂
Mary’s Local Market Anniversary…It has been a fun journey and I hope you learned as much as I did this past year.
I visited many different farmers’ markets. Some were large while others only had a few tables, but most of them in my local area. I am hoping to expand my travels this year and learn about the other delicious, healthy, nutritious treats are out there. My trip to the Ferry Building market in San Francisco was unbelievable! I couldn’t get over all the fresh, local, organic and natural products available!
Of course, getting fresh naturally grown or organic fruits and veggies at a local market is what I am there for. But the crowds of happy people milling about is always a joy to watch. And the vendors are fantastic! I haven’t met one yet who wasn’t happy to share their story. Their pride in what they have to offer is a great thing to see and they have a wealth of information to tell me 🙂
I learned about the difference between Local, Organic and Naturally Grown (“near-ganic” as one vendor and friend likes to say). Many people assume they are the same thing and while they can be, sometimes they’re not. That is why it is important to talk to the vendor, ask questions about their produce. “Where was it grown?” “Are you certified?” “Can I visit your farm?”
Healthy eating habits are different for everyone, but proper nutrition is important for all – no matter which diet you follow. Whether you live a Paleo, Gluten-Free, Vegan or Flexitarian lifestyle, eating properly is key to our health. I hope you find my articles with the health benefits and nutritional information included helpful.
And speaking of eating healthy, I have really enjoyed sharing my recipes with you! It has been a lot of fun creating new dishes and telling you about family favorites 🙂 My goal is to inspire you to try new foods and experiment with different flavors. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be difficult or costly; I hope my recipes and articles show you that it can be easily done every day.
