My sugar detox update. As I write this, I am in the middle of the third week of not adding sugar to my diet. Only 1-½ weeks to go.
To recap…I decided to go on a no-sugar-added diet because I’ve been slowly gaining weight over the last couple years. Not a lot but enough to annoy me. I’m a fairly active person and I really try to watch what I eat. So this weight gain has been a worry for me.
My cholesterol had also gone back up over 200. The LDL (the “lousy” cholesterol) and triglycerides. Again, not a big jump and no reason for concern, but I wasn’t happy. I eat a mostly plant-based, high fiber diet. Obviously there was something that I was doing that caused it to go back up.
So I decided to quit sugar for four weeks. Processed sugar, artificial sweeteners and alcohol.
My hope was that I’d see some weight loss and feel a bit better. Not sure if it was the actual weight gain or how I felt about it, but I had been feeling sluggish. Not quite myself.
My Sugar Detox Update
My progress so far has been that the first few days were difficult and then it got easier. Last weekend was especially stressful though and I really was craving sugar and junk food! I kept thinking… I could lapse just the one day and “know one would know”. Yup! A little Freudian slip there because I WOULD KNOW 🙁
I am happy to say that I stayed strong 🙂
I’ve lost four pounds so far. Two more since my last posting. I seem to be sleeping better at night. And best of all, I don’t feel so sluggish! I won’t get my cholesterol checked again until next summer but I’m sure the sugar cutback can only help.
The 11th will be my last day of detoxing. I’ll put out my final progress post after that weekend.
